New User- Network Problem
Are you running any firewall setup on the laptop? something I have upgraded, I suppose. hosts.allow has all the usual entries, I can ping out to the network, and send mail normally through my firewall machine to the adsl router. Name serving seems to be working, though I cannot check with dig as it is not installed

The network addresses are all in the order of 10.0.0.x, and the netmask is 255.0.0.0. I don't know what other information an expert would require in order to advise me. Meanwhile I have to get the network working again by Tuesday, otherwise business will grind to a halt. I guess I'll try and get the hubs back

You also suggest getting the network working, but not sure how to do that if there's no eth0 interface. I can ping 127.0.0.1 (the kernel), but not my machine: 192.168.1.1: "Network is unreachable". An obvious place to look is my routing table, but # route shows that the routing table is empty.

Its a very interesting work...and the network is working :) Ha....physically the outputs are LOLE (h/year that the power system cant supply the demand) and EENS(MWh, thats the energy that the system didn't supply, it load curtailment or something...sorry about my English). Network nightmare
We had fits setting up one of the new laptops at work which caused problems on our network. I finally ripped out the Symantec security suite which included some sort of firewall I have 'Zone Alarm' on my home network(s), which is a mix of Win 98 to XP computers, wired and wireless desktops and a couple laptops.

had a 3 computer network working, two with ME, one with 98SE. Today I replaced the 98SE machine with a new one with XP. I ran the network wizard on the XP system and it said that it was done successfully, but it doesn't seem to have worked. Furthermore, now the other machines don't see each other.

Unable To Connect On A Network Working With TCP/IP
I used the Network Setup Wizard to hook up my laptop and desktop. Both are running XP Home and the name for the workgroup is the same on both systems.
